“Don’t just teach your children to read…
Teach them to question what they read.
Teach them to question everything.” – George Carlin

At ARBOUR GROVE, students are encouraged to develop their knowledge and skills in all aspects of growth: physical, social, emotional, and intellectual. A dynamic curriculum, coupled with a commitment to meet the needs of each child, makes ARBOUR GROVE an inspiring place for learning.

The curriculum prescribed by CBSE is being strictly followed. While implementation and execution of the curriculum our outstanding innovations offer exciting, rich, varied and broad course of study, which help to develop students’ skills for all aspects of learning. We work hard to create a sense of excitement and an enthusiasm for lifelong learning and to ensure that all students achieve not only in their exams but in life-skills also.

  • LINGUISTIC ARENA: ENGLISH, HINDI, SANSKRIT and PUNJABI

Our language curriculum consists of four linked elements: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. As the children enter primary school with different skill levels, they are all supported and challenged to develop their skills fully. We employ a multi-faceted approach to all areas of language arts. To help them to become good readers and writers, the students are immersed in literature. Listening to books read aloud, discussing the stories, and responding to them orally or in a written format are essential elements of our program. A phonics program supports the acquisition of reading and writing skills and sound-symbol relationships are taught in a relevant and meaningful way.

From Grade III onwards students will have to opt for Sanskrit or Punjabi as a third language.

  • PLAYING WITH NUMBERS:

Under the curricular guidelines of CBSE, we use a program which is designed to help all children understand the fundamental ideas of number and operations, data handling, algebra and basic trigonometry. We supplement the program with our own materials when necessary to reinforce students’ understanding of important mathematical concepts and skills.

Students are made to engage in mathematical thinking through experimentation, investigation, questioning, and problem solving. The students are encouraged to be active problem solvers and to use multiple strategies to arrive at solutions. The focus is at increasing competence in learning by doing.

  • CO-ORDINATING: NATURE AND SURROUNDINGS

Our EVS classes focus on the development of basic scientific process skills by guiding and encouraging the natural curiosity within each student. The students explore the world by making observations, asking questions, hypothesizing, and drawing conclusions through a syllabus which cover a wide variety of topics. The students are exposed to scientific language through class discussions and reading science-based age-appropriate literature. Focusing on the idea of community, our EVS classroom program is designed to enhance and stimulate each child’s awareness of and interest in the world around him.

  • e-LEARNING:

ARBOUR GROVE School computer program is integrated with the regular classroom curriculum. In addition to the knowledge of basic computer skills class-wise learning program is adopted.

  • CHARACTER BUILDING:

While giving the value education we aim at instilling the core values of honesty, patience, kindness, responsibility, empathy, loyalty, patriotism respect for living things, cooperation, and humility among other values.

  • NURTURING CREATIVITY:

At AGS, art education seeks to encourage experience and expression. Students have opportunities to balance structure and establish the safe and appropriate use of materials and basic techniques in an atmosphere that encourages individual ideas and interests. Drawing and music enhances the creative abilities of children.

  • SOUND MIND IN SOUND BODY:

The physical education program emphasizes fundamental locomotors, stability, and manipulative movements (running, skipping, throwing, catching, etc.) for primary classes. The senior students are given training in Badminton, basketball, skating, Lawn-tennis, table –tennis, javelin throw, discus throw, shot put, long jump, high-jump, chess etc. to prepare them for state level and national level competitions. The teachers strive to develop personal athletic growth and a team spirit rather than focus only on competition.

  • INCLUSION PROGRAMME

‘The only thing worse than being blind, is having sight but no vision.’ – Helen Keller

AGS Pehowa believes that every student has the potential to access and make progress towards any goal. Inclusion is an attitude we adopt in our interactions with one another. It is about intentionally planning for the success of all students by providing them the right atmosphere to enable them to succeed in the regular classroom and to nurture them to participate independently in society.

We at AGS Pehowa follow the philosophy of Inclusive Education and adheres to the CBSE Guidelines for Inclusive Practices. All students, regardless of any challenges they may have, are placed in age- appropriate general education classes and receive appropriate instructions, interventions, and support that enables them to succeed in the core curriculum. Early identification of special needs is the key to a child’s successful development. The school and classroom operate on the premise that students with disabilities are as fundamentally competent as students without disabilities. The driving principle is to develop a sense of belonging among the students and support them in their efforts to see them through their years at school.
